Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

A dramatic sunset over mountain ridges framed between evergreen trees at an overloook in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. I had planned on capturing the sunset at the Clingmans Dome overlook, which is higher up than the overlook where this scene is. Clingmans Dome was engulfed in clouds and nothing could be seen. I waited for it to clear, hoping for dramatic lighting. However, I had to give up and start to head to an overlook below the clouds. On the way down, I could see the fiery sun briefly emerge through the clouds. I was hoping it would last till I could get situated at an upcoming overlook. I finally got to this overlook and this was what I witnessed.
As a photographer, it is my belief that the two essential elements in a photograph are vision and light. Vision pushes the photographer out at different seasons, times and conditions to capture what he wants to convey and light is the primary tool in fulfilling that vision. My main passions in photography are in capturing country landscapes and small towns. As an avid student of history, I also enjoy finding out about the history of the region I am exploring. The best part of photography is being in a wonderful location and heading out very early in the morning or late in the evening when most people are still sleeping or settling in for the night.
