Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

Stunningly realistic still-life painted in 1890 by American artist John Frederick Peto (1854-1907). Peto was all-but forgotten until his paintings were rediscovered along with those of fellow trompe l'oeil artist William Harnett fairly recently. Trompe l'oeil ('fool the eye') was a genre of still life that aims to deceive the viewer into mistaking painted objects for reality. Both Peto and Harnett represented the objects in their paintings at their actual size, and the objects rarely were cut off by the edge of the painting, as this would allow a visual cue to the viewer that the depiction was not real. Both artists 'enthrall the viewer with a disturbing but pleasant sense of confusion' (Wikipedia), and carry more than a whiff of surrealism, and the hyper-realist movement of the 1910s and 1980s.
