A true statement - that Everyone has an Absolute Right to defence against Abuse, - but in regard to guns - it is an outdated quote ! - In 1790 Washington, no one, could imagine super powerful guns in the hands of everyone - like 'undisciplined' gangs, the mentally ill or murderous criminals ! - A sensible rule about gun control needs to be found - that is in line, and which can be adjusted, to the present and future gun technology ! -

Although this meme does include a portion of Washington’s first annual address to members of the Senate and House of Representatives in 1790, the majority of the quote was never uttered by the Founding Father, and does not accurately represent his views on gun control. Nonetheless, its apocryphal nature doesn’t hinder its continued reproduction as a genuine expression from George Washington:
