Description
Yosemite Valley (yoh-SEM-i-tee) is a glacial valley in Yosemite National Park in the western Sierra Nevada mountains of California, carved out by the Merced River. The valley is about 8 miles long and up to a mile deep, surrounded by high granite summits such as Half Dome and El Capitan, Cathedral Rocks, and others, densely forested with pines. A multitude of streams including Tenaya, Illilouette and Bridalveil Creeks join in the valley, and flow out of the valley's mouth as the Merced River, which eventually flows to the Pacific Ocean. The valley is renowned for its natural beauty, and is widely regarded as the centerpiece of Yosemite National Park, attracting visitors from around the world.

.....
The Valley is the main attraction in the park for the majority of visitors, and a bustling hub of activity during "tourist season", with an array of visitor facilities clustered in the middle. There are both hiking trail loops that stay within the valley and trail-heads that lead to higher elevations, all of which afford glimpses of the park's many scenic wonders.
.....
Yosemite Valley represents only one percent of the park area, but this is where most visitors arrive and stay. More than half a dozen creeks tumble from hanging valleys at the top of granite cliffs that can rise 3000–4000 feet above the valley floor, which itself is 4000 ft above sea level.
.....
These streams combine into the Merced River, which flows out from the western end of the valley, down the rest of its canyon to the San Joaquin Valley.
.....
The flat floor of Yosemite Valley holds both forest and large open meadows, which provide breathtaking views of the surrounding crests and waterfalls.

what a great capture! I love rocks they are captivating with their textures colors anf forms ..this one is an absolute stunner! If that rock could talk it would have a long story to tell I am sure!
Bob and Nadine Johnston replied:
Many days you can see climbers on the rock, ElCap is so huge. They look like ants without binoculars or a telephoto lens. They seldom show in pictures unless you zoom with 450 mm telephoto.

Thank you for all the comments. Yosemite became a very special place for me, and some close friends. At times have spoken of the Motorcycle club that five of us Started, which grew to 82 couples, when I had to quite due to disabilities... Over 90% were Veterans, about 5% active duty members. Every Memorial Day, we made a three day trip to Yosemite. We felt it a much better place to be, to remember those who Gave All. We preferred it to a Cemetery with the speeches, etc. We could sit around a campfire, and talk about those we had lost. To Honor them by remembering the good stories about good people, with those who totally understood how we felt. Only those who have "Seen the Elephant" can really under stand what it is like.... Its became some of the best therapy we can have to remember the good experiences with those who were willing to die for us, and had. We and our Wives, Children, Grandchildren, our Families, will never Forget.... Even today, just writing, it brings tears, but those tears are also healing...
