When this fantastic looking 1971 Plymouth Hemi-Cuda Convertible pulled into the car show it immediately drew a crowd waiting to see the hood popped on this legendary muscle car. Now, a 1971 Hemi-Cuda Convertible with a 426 Hemi and manual 4-speed transmission is indeed a super rare and ungodly expensive automobile to say the least. Only 12 Hemi-Cuda, R-Code, Convertibles were ever built and it is claimed that five of them were shipped overseas. Rare indeed, of the 12 Hemi-Cuda convertibles that were produced it is claimed that only 3 of them were 4-speed manual transmission equipped from the factory.
This particular 1971 Hemi-Cuda Convertible started life as an N-Code Cuda Convertible powered by a 383 Cubic Inch High Performance V8 engine. This car has undergone a massive restoration process and other than looking at the VIN Number and seeing the N-Code listing one would not know this is not an original 1971 Hemi-Cuda. Everything on this car has been gone over to make it as close to a factory original as possible. The entire frame, body structure and all suspension components are as come on an original Hemi-Cuda and are able to deal with the massive horsepower and torque the 426 Hemi produces.
All of the stronger frame and chassis enhancements have been added, welded in place and then blended so unless you have a very skilled eye and knowledge of the Hemi-Cuda you would never know the difference. The Hemi V8 in this car is an original numbers matching 1971 Hemi V8 that has been totally gone through and now puts out substantially more horsepower than the original. The solid rear axle assembly holds a Dana 60 rear differential with 9.75 inch gears with a ratio of 4.10:1. The 4-speed manual transmission is an A883 with a Hurst pistol grip shifter attached and the leaf springs on the rear are the same as would have come on the original Hemi-Cuda convertible.
A true original R-Code 1971 Hemi-Cuda Convertible would likely sell for several million dollars these days and for as nicely and completely done as the one pictured here it would not be surprising for this vehicle to be worth well into the six-figure range of pricing. Beautiful car, superbly and carefully detailed automobile that many are amazed to see driving down the street.
This car is absolutely immaculate, and the undercarriage of the vehicle is every bit as clean and carefully detailed as the exterior and interior. Needless to say, its Hemi V8 sounds fantastic and without question this car has to be fast. There are many that consider the 1971 Hemi-Cuda as the ultimate expression of the America Muscle Car. 1971 was the last year that the venerable 426 Hemi, 440 6-Barrel and 383 High Performance V8 engines would be available in production cars from Chrysler Corporation.
Automotive photos look great displayed in a den, family room, office, garage, auto service shop waiting rooms, tire stores, parts stores, hot rod shops and upholstery shops. If you are not interested in one of these photos for yourself do not forget about your friends or other family members that have an interest in the automotive field. Photos make marvelous gifts and are suitable for numerous occasions ! ! !
