Description
This vintage map displays Waco, Texas, as it appeared in 1886--the year Baylor University moved from Independence (TX) to Waco, merging with Waco University (listed on the map). Just one year prior to this map a carbonated drink named Dr. Pepper was created and served at Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store (#18 on the map). Twenty years prior to this map the city of Waco constructed the first bridge across the Brazos river--the suspension bridge located on the map. Two railroad bridges were built following the success of the suspension bridge. Today, Waco is best known as the home to Baylor University.
