Description
Heroin addiction: equipment used to prepare and inject heroin. Heroin (diacetyl morphine) is a white powder. In order to be taken, it is mixed with water and heated in the spoon seen here to dissolve it. The heroin solution may then be taken up in the syringe and injected into a vein. Heroin is an opiate analgesic drug which induces stupor and narcotic sleep states. Its danger is that it causes dependence and tolerance. Tolerance leads to ever-increasing doses being taken, often resulting in fatal overdose. 'Kicking' the habit can be very difficult, as severe withdrawal symptoms are frequent.
