Description
E. coli bacteria (Escherichia coli) colonies being cultured on an agar growth medium in a petri dish. E. coli bacteria are normally found in the human intestines. Some strains cause food-poisoning with bloody diarrhoea. These strains can be transmitted to humans from contaminated beef and milk. E. coli can also cause urogenital infections. Grown on eosin methylene blue (EMB) agar. EMB agar contains the indicator dyes eosin and methylene blue. These allow the isolation and identification of different bacteria, making EMB a differential agar.
