Description
I found this tomb on All Saint's Day in St. Louis One Cemetery on Basin St. in New Orleans. This is the oldest of the above ground (most of them are) cemeteries in the city. Huge Ass Beers (as seen in cups on the tomb) are sold on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter in "go cups." I know to some it may seem sac-religious, but it is not. People leave all sorts of things for the dead in this cemetery. In another one there was a half filled bottle of Jack Daniels on a locally famous trumpeter's grave, and every time I went there, it was still there and still half full! :) Laissez les bon temps rouler! :) kk

I dictated the comment below this and I do realize that it's kind of screwed up, but that's an iPhone for you! :-)

Thank you so much, Judie, John, Toni, and Steve for your comments. You know, New Orleans is a place of a lot of emotion, including sorrow and laughter and remembrances all mixed together. So at such times as all Saints Day, we go visit the dead. Usually, this other photographer and I will go here or to Saint Roch or to go visit all of his relatives who are spaced out in various cemeteries near the foot of Canal Street. Of the other cemeteries, people generally just take flowers, but at St. Louis one, my favorite, you'll find all kinds of things. The photographer who goes with me got really upset with me because I moved voodoo doll so it would be in a better place and my composition. He believed I had just jinxed myself. Maybe I did! Hmmmm! Anyway we can't go in there anymore unless we go with a tour or hop the fence, because it is now closed thanks to the vandals in the city who will steal anything off of an old tomb or desecrate it! Kk
