Topaz Simplify, Turn Your Photos Into Works of Art

The special price on Topaz Simplify ($27.99) available until the end of May 2015, makes the collection of filters an interesting option and a bargain for those looking for some extra filters in their special effects collection.

Create beautiful paintings from your photos with Topaz Simplify. Instead of just giving you a few cookie-cutter effects, Simplify gives you a powerful set of tools to create the art that only you can make. Beware, though. The idea of creating paintings from your photographs may be the wrong one to assume. It is interesting, but as everything in life, it has to embraced with caution.

I remember, years ago, before all this digital wizardry was possible, how a photographer I knew fell in love with the basic filters available in Photoshop. Suddenly he discovered all he wanted to be was a painter. And although he could not even do a straight line with a brush, he started to churn out image after image transformed into paintings, through Photoshop, happy to receive compliments from people who said, over and over, "nice. It looks like a painting". Not understanding, that the worst compliment a photographer can have is to hear someone say "our photograph looks like a painting". Unless, that's what they're aiming for...

So, from my point of view, you have to be careful when you, as a photographer, want to use Topaz Simplify. I know my share of people who once they find filters like those included in the Topaz Simplify pack think they've found the Holy Grail for their stardom path. They've not. Filters, be it the old Cokin filters so many misused, or those modern digital filters, are no way to transform a bad photograph into a master piece. They'll embellish it somehow, but do not make you a better photographer. They are to be used with parsimony.

The marketing from Topaz Labs suggests that you can "create beautiful paintings from your photos with Topaz Simplify. Instead of just giving you a few cookie-cutter effects, Simplify gives you a powerful set of tools to create the art that only you can make."

If you read the previous paragraph with some extra attention you'll understand the true meaning of it. Topaz Simplify gives you a shortcut to be more creative with some of your images, a starting point to explore, and it does not mean you just have to transform photographs into paintings. In fact you can also create sketches, watercolors, cartoons, and more, make your art uniquely personal instead of using cookie-cutter filters and get better results faster with specialized digital art technology.

I absolutely believe in the interesting aspects of the program, using it myself for some photography, but again, reading the marketing from Topaz, you'll discover that Topaz Simplify's ultimate goal "is to make it as simple as possible to create great art from your photos." Its tools let you mix and match edges, details, and other image features in ways that weren't possible before. Try it out on your own images for free today, using the demonstration version available for download.

So, Topaz Simplify - or any other program of its kind, in fact - should be used as an extension of your vision, to present interesting ways to show your photographs, but not as a crutch to hide bad photographs, repeatedly used... in a cookie cutter style. Because, especially in these Internet and digital times, I do feel that many special effects used are just a way for people to share bad photographs transformed into something that was not there to start with. And that does not much for photography!
