You're a photographer, not a painter. Else, you're in the wrong path. But nothing stops you from exploring. Still life, for example, is a subject that asks, sometimes, for a painterly tone. Find out how you can do it.
Fine art or, better, still life compositions, start with the placement of objects in one harmonious composition that plays with shapes, light and shadow. From there and the original image, you can then move towards any kind of treatment that enhances the look of old still life paintings or photographs, like the example here, that uses Topaz Impressions from Topaz Labs as the final editing tool. The photographic origin of the image is still visible, while the painterly feeling can be controlled by the user.
