The Last Picture

Painting was not always a one my priorities. It developed from a need, a necessity to express what I was seeing and thinking. Though we may not be sure why we have these feelings, for me it's good to explore my mental process. I expect knowledge of self remains largely hidden from most of us. I know in my case it can be for much of the time. So, it is important , for my art, to allow this quality to develop and mature. One day my ability to paint will be gone, either by death or age. This brings me to the question, all of us as artists ask. Why am I spending a significant chunk of time to further increase our skills? Is it just for money? For fame? For popularity? Maybe the answer is not so rudimentary. Perhaps it is just the quality I need to be Cliff Welty.

How beautiful it is that we are unique. I am me, you are you, just as it should be. Balance, harmony, symmetry is the result when all components of personality are in play. So in other words, it's just part of my life.

The first painting, the middle painting, the last painting, all part of the big picture. It is my need to express my innermost thoughts and feelings being fulfilled in dirt and oil on canvas.
