The Curse Of Sisyphus

To those not familiar with this story from Greek mythology Sisyphus is a figure who was punished by the gods for his
deceitfulness.
He was condemned eternally to roll a boulder up a hill only to have it roll back down on him.
He would then have to repeat the task of rolling it back up again, again and again.
Not really much of an improvement over eternity in hellfire and brimstone.
But that's how the Greek gods came up with their version of hell.
Condemning someone to repeat the same task over an over again forever.

One could see this as a metaphor for some of us who in a sense do the same thing,
The difference though is that instead of the gods inflicting this on us it is we who inflict this on ourselves.
How many of us go through life repeating the same routine over and over again, without making any
real progress in one's life?
Some of us do the same dead end job continuously because we don't push ourselves to do something
better or different.
So we stick ourselves in a rut and go nowhere.
We lull ourselves into a comfortable predictable stupor of mundane routine that numbs our incentive
to try a different path.

While some of us may be comfortable with this there may be others who are not.
For those who want a difference or a change this could be a form of hell like that which Sisyphus
was condemned to suffer in.
Repeating the same thing over and over again.
Boredom in itself can be a form of hell which I'm sure explains why being confined to a prison
can be an unwelcome fate for those who break the law.
If Sisyphus instead was condemned to an eternity of solitary confinement in a prison cell, that
could hardly be less worse than having to roll a huge stone up a hill forever.
With nothing to do but pace back and forth in one's cell how mentally agonizing would this
prove to be?
Especially if this were to last forever?
