I came across this quote by Paul Warwick of China Arts, "...developing art and developing artists are not always the same thing. Giving loads of money to already successful artists or companies to make a show is not artist development, it's a commission. Artist development is risky and it won't all work." and got to thinking about just how right he is.
Risk is difficult for many. Of course what that means varies according to the person, but the concept of risk suggests that it is just that, or at least more difficult than doing something without risk. But development can't exist without it. In fact, it's nearly impossible. Read why here: Kindness Can Save the Arts.
