Rachel G. - Valley High School

One of my favorite assignments to shoot are high school senior portraits. Often positive and full of un-jaded optimism, their smiles are easily provoked by simple conversation for their plans and what the future will hold for them. Today, I had the great pleasure of photographing Rachel, a young woman, I have watch come of age. I have taken early high school dance portraits and even shot her sixteenth birthday - the coolest luau NOT on the island of Hawaii.

I was honored to get the call from Rachel asking to shoot her senior portraits. In discussing some of the details about the shoot - her likes and dislikes - I found out she was into hunting and camping - a really outdoorsy soul. This made the location choice an easy one - Mount Charleston!

Mount Charleston is a great location transitioning through the low desert to over ten thousand feet. This time of year is great because the temps are down, the colors of fall are in full transition and it is really pleasant to be up in the clean air.

Rachel is a bright and talented young woman, with goals of college and a possible stint in the military. She is the commander of her Junior Reserve Officer Training (ROTC) group at Valley High School, loves camping and hunting with the family and today, I found out today that Rachel was also in a runner up in her very first beauty pageant, which entitles her to compete again in November for the Nationals. Truly amazing.

Working with her was a treat and I enjoyed spending time with her and her mom Debra...Watch out world - Rachel is ready to take over.
