Photo of the Day- Swan Lake

My aim was just to take photos of the a bit run-down Russell Street early in the morning, but then it turned out to be such a fine morning that I took my bike and rode along the seafront and into the old town to take some more shots.

The bright sun and some deep shadows didn't make it an easy task to get well-exposed photos, especially around the net huts. The situation just called for HDR. So I took some bracketed shots and used Photomatix to process them. I hadn't done that for quite a long time and I think they turned out just fine although there is always the risk of overdoing it.

Right at the end of Rock-A-Nore Parade there were some surfers in the water and I had to learn a lesson: Always take a choice of lenses with you! It was so annoying that I only had my 10-24mm wide-angle lens with me. It would have been great to shoot close-ups of the surfers. So always expect the unexpected and don't be too lazy to carry some more gear with you.

Below you'll find the other photos I took along the seafront. The photos of Russell Street can be found on the Hastings Street Photography page.

Thank you for reading and viewing.
