Photo of the Day- 38282.6 kWh

I still shake my head in wonder everytime I walk past one of these open electricity reader boxes hanging on a wall, accessible to anyone. For me that's just unbelievable. It's dangerous for kids and anyone could temper around with them.

This year I will challenge myself with Hastings Street Photography. You will see a lot of it throughout the year. My reasons for doing this are:

1. A fresh view of the town to my viewers.
2. Not always the same photos of the pier, the stade and the old town.
3. To really get to know the town.
4. To experiment with different techniques.
5. To force myself to go outdoors.

There is an extra page in the menu just for this challenge. By clicking on it you will find portfolios of streets.

Wellington Mews is the first street on my Hastings Street Photography Challenge. I have simply chosen this as a starting point, because it is just outside my backdoor. It wasn't a nice morning yesterday. It was drizzling and the sky certainly wasn't a photographer's paradise. So I had to keep it out of my pictures as much as possible. My new 50mm prime lens came in handy for that task. A prime lens itself is a challenge if you are used to zoom lenses. Hey, you actually have to walk around to fit the scene into the frame! Most of the images were made with this lens and some with a 10-24mm zoom lens.

When I went into post-production I decided to go for Black & White shots. They just represented the mood of the day much better than colour images. For my usual stuff I have created my own preset in Lightroom which didn't work at all yesterday. So I had to start from scratch. The main issue was to bring more contrast into the pictures. To bring more detail into the photos I also used the Topaz Detail Filter in Photoshop.

My Hastings Street Photography is certainly going to be a long-term project and I try to shoot a new street as often as I can. Thank you for reading and following.
