Morning Pages

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween and All Saints Day. Mine was quiet and nothing to report except a phone call from no one I knew at 2:30 AM looking for Bob. That is okay as I really do not want to blog about the phone call. I want to blog about "The Artists Way". The reason being is I love this book, even if it is a self-help book of which requires tasks and a bit of discipline, of which I have never been good at.

The Morning Pages Julia says is a mandate to break the block that comes with being a creative person, which we all are is mandatory. "Ugh". You have to do them, and you probably have to get up really early to do them in order to get everything done in ones day. She is adamant, three pages of writing whatever in a note book. Even if it is your shopping list over and over, you have to do it. As I have stated before, I do not like self-help books because they are like instruction manuals, which require me to follow instructions to clean my oven, or break down the vacuum cleaner so it will pick up the 2 months of dog hair settling in the carpet. I know me, I will take a short cut if at all possible. Guess what I have found one. I am pretty sure I cannot find three pages worth of bla bla on note book paper, but I think I can on a smaller sized notebook like 5 x 7. I did consider one of those little guys I use for my shopping list, but that may be too big of a short cut.

I had to ask myself, so how is this going to bring forth the creative juices, because I know me I will blocked about what I write. It's too much pressure, it's an expectation I am afraid I cannot fulfill! I do know where this is going, get the "stuff" that holds me down "out". It opens doors and windows to the outside to breath the air of creativity, but I don't want to do it. Okay I will give it a shot, but I am throwing away the three pages of 5x7 with my grocery list because they might incriminate me one day. I am not going to do it everyday. I am taking the weekend off, unless the Morning Pages become a habit for me to get obsessed with, which could happen, like flossing my teeth.

I'm a big fan of the morning pages and have filled many notebooks. Amazing what comes out of the soul when written by hand.
