One time, I had an argument with a friend over whether buying flowers for a woman is a meaningless or a meaningful gesture. He was of the opinion that it’s a wasteful practice, holding little to no meaning. Why would one spend hard-earned money on a perishable item that doesn’t provide any practical benefits? I get what he was saying, but I still argue that despite the fact that flowers can’t provide any visible, physical benefits, I think that the psychological and emotional benefits that fresh flowers provide far outweigh the cost. I know it’s cliché but I’m going to say it anyway: it’s the thought that counts.
