Amazing Sights Upside down

Have you ever had the opportunity to see an eagle in flight? They are amazingly graceful. If you have never seen it you should put that on your list of must sees. I have many chances to see eagles and they are huge when they spread their wings and fly over you.

One summer while early morning canoeing, I was headed for the island in which I knew this year’s baby eagles were getting ready to fly. I slowly drifted toward the island watching the adult eagle sitting on the nest. The as I looked forward, I noticed the young eagle flying directly toward me. It was getting closer and closer. Of course I had my camera and was snapping pictures. They huge young eagle swooped quietly by me. It was such an awesome sight. (Good thing for digital cameras – you can just keep snapping pictures. Then to my amazement, the inexperienced eagle prepared to land on a branch of a large pine tree. He grabbed the branch with his claws and his body kept going! He was literally hanging upside down! The adult eagle in the other tree began to squawk as if it were laughing at him. And at that time I was laughing so hard it echoed on the lake. The eagle was hanging upside down watching me watch him. He hung there for about 15 seconds which seems like a long time. And finally he flapped his wings enough to right himself on the branch. But what an experience! I guess everyone including birds has to learn somehow. Hopefully you can picture in your mind what I have described. It was one of those amazing sights that you have to take time to notice. It makes the world a whole lot better!
