This elephant is personal to me. I wanted to draw an elephant for my daughter that was different. Her grandfather, my father-in-law, had a love for elephants and had acquired quite a collection of various forms of elephant art in his lifetime. When he passed away, the elephants were divided among the grand kids. Many of the grandchildren still hold a special place in their hearts for elephants because of this.
I drew this elephant on white Strathmore fine tooth paper with black sharpie markers. I wanted the entire piece to be just about the 'image' of the animal and not so much about the absolute details one would often see in a portrait of the subject. It is simple yet the zentangle patterns make it more complex. It was fun to draw and it remains one of my favorite pieces to date.
