@GROUP Signature or not signature?

Could the signature on our work have a negative effect in the buyer's mind for his/her final decision to purchase? I NEED TO KNOW

I always sign my images but lately I'm making it the smallest I can do because I believe that the signature might distract the viewer from what he/her should look at inside the image.
I feel that if I don't sign my pieces I feel like a DOG NOT "MARKING" THIS POLE OR THAT TREE as my territory... :-)

Hi Marcello...regarding Signature, I make them so that they are sometimes hidden in the piece, creatively of course, and also try to blend mine in and make them almost like a watermark....I agree, the signature sometimes distracts from the piece and FAA seems to like to elevate those without or with somewhat unnoticeable sigs...but I always sign somewhere.

@ Marcello, regarding signature I think there is a difference if it is a painting or a photograph or digital art. Personally I think a painting needs to be signed as it is one more indication of an original artwork. That's what people expect on a painting. It is a little bit different with a photograph or digital art. You can sign it upon request of the customer. I hope my theory helps.

Just stopping by to say I haven't forgotten you. :) It's going to be a while before I'm really up to speed again. I just had a stitch removed from my left eye, but unfortunately had an inflammation there which is now under control. Surgery on the right eye is postponed until October 10. In the mean time I'll be temporarily insane.

Went back to Friday since I have been gone several days due to taking some time off for my b'day!

Good Morning, I went back all the way to my last post. What a beautiful and inspiring art walk I had this morning.

@ Robyn Stacey, regarding car photography. In a car show the unfortunate thing often is that there are signs on the front windshields with information about the car. In order to avoid taking these pictures you have to find different angles. People who collect these kind of pictures often like to see specific details. For example the figure on the hood or an emblem. Try to take pictures along the side or just the hood fully framed. Try to take details, reflections and if they are very colorful. If there are some interesting out of the ordinary features, take them. Since most of these cars are quite shiny watch your reflection, when you take the pictures. Otherwise you take quite a few self-portraits. It happened to me in the beginning. Tilt you camera and take pictures in an angle. That's about as much as I can tell you. You will have fun and I am sure you will take great pictures. Just think a little bit outside the box with regards to angle and perspective.

@ Sharon, the Okanagan is a beautiful place. I think with this year's weather there are more fruits than ever. I couldn't eat enough peaches and melons. We picked them from the ground as the farms are not even keeping up anymore. I absolutely loved Vernon and Kalamalka lake. You truly live in a perfect spot here in BC.

@ James, even though I had my camera with me, I was in relaxing mode. I took a few pictures but I am not sure what the results are. I didn't have time to look at them yet. So, bear with me.

Finally!!! I have been trying to get into FAA all evening and it was soooooooooo slow. Hopefully I can vote and promote now.

Well at least I was able to vote and promote. But I have still trouble going on various sm pages. I will try tomorrow again and visit Barbara's and Clare's Crate page and Jane's SeeMe page. Hopefully it will work better tomorrow.

@ Barbara, I agree with you that some people just find the participation in this group too tedious. For me however, it has become a place I am looking forward to returning to as this group has become my "virtual friends group". I am not too happy if I miss a few days like at the moment. Hopefully we get busier again and keep it going. I try to think about something.

Thankfully my computer is a bit faster today and I can log in properly. I liked Jane and Barbara on SeeMe. I am looking into Crate right now. Can someone give me some more information about Crate as I am wondering if I should yet again join another SM. I hardly have time to keep up with what I have right now. But then again, if it is worthwhile I would do it.

@ Jane, I have a good feeling about SeeMe as it doesn't seem to be virtual only. I signed up as a Pro Member now and will give it a try for a year. You seem to have more experience with SeeMe. What do you think about them?

@ Sabine - crated.com is another site to sell your art. Very similar to Redbubble.com and also FAA. Its a free site though, so you have to specify a percentage that you will accept per sale. The paramenters for the uploads are similar to FAA and I have just been using my FAA info to fill in the fields. Crated also has the SM buttons to share your work (or others' work) on various SM sites. I have not had much time to try and expand my portfolio over there, but I do feel that it necessary to diversify away from one particular print to order site.
Ever since the whiney diatribe from the FAA owners about not using other sites to sell OUR art, the activity on other sites like Etsy, Redbubble, 500px, and Crated has been increasing. Sharon Cummings stated the she has had her worst month of sales on FAA since their little rant, and she is now increasing her SM promotion from other sites.

I sent to color print about 600 PDF sales sheets of almost all my artwork because I'm planning to take this "book" with my in all shows. Also I'll attached next to each painting the pdf sales sheet. People would have the option to scan the barcode and consider purchasing prints. Let's see how it goes. @Sabine - if your intention is to get feature and more exposure then I would say it's ideal and there's all it's about. Becoming a pro member provide chances to participate any competitions for exposure/exhibition or scholarships and of cos you can take part as a basic member too but to pay individually for each competition. I see there has some changes this year and I haven't really have chance to look into it but definitely will. Overall I was very please to be part of it and didn't take too much of my time.

Sabine I think you are going to enjoy see.me my experience there has been good as well. I have been in several of their shows and featured on their facebook page several times as well, definitely great exposure. The most recent time was the Times Square Show in New York I had three pieces included. I wasn't sure until last minute because of being in the hospital and not seeing the email until right before. That is the only bad point I have found, stay on top of their emails, so you don't miss anything. I just submitted my work in time but didn't have any time to promote it too much like I did the other times. Still an awesome honor to have been included and fantastic exposure!! @ Sabine - crated.com is all visual arts. There is a large collection of photography there, and its quite new, so there is not the multitudes of images like at FAA.

I am in several groups where you have to go back 24 hrs if you are gone for awhile. To me, it seems like a punishment for taking a vacation or for being sick or busy! I understand the group leaders want to weed out the freeloaders. I'm not sure how to make it more desirable to do, yet discourage the freeloaders!

Maybe have it so regular participants who are away for a few days just promote the one above ,but new people to the group promote back 24 hrs ...not sure

I think that the 24 hour requirement for regulars is unnecessary. Most regulars will go back anyway to see the work shared.

There needs to be some reciprocation by new participants otherwise its just to easy to dump and run.

The other option could be to modify the promotion style. We could just require promotion of the 3 links above your post and eliminate the daily post (I've seen this done in other groups). That way as long as there are 3 unique links above yours, you are able to promote and you could provide multiple links per day if people keep posting in the thread. This would also encourage more people to participate, but would be very difficult to verify, unless everyone provides the links to where they promote everytime.

Yippeee - I'm back. So happy to receive Barb's email this morning. I have really missed you all here but I'm so busy working these days that I haven't had time to go through the 24 hours worth of great work and comment. So I have done the last three and will go back more when time permits. For now - here is a new piece that I have finally finished. It is called "Black Madonna of My Heart" and is in honor of the Black Madonna of the Chartres Cathedral in France. This statue is hundreds of years old and recently, because of a restoration project, she was painted over and is now white with blonde hair and blue eyes. A group of artists I know went over to France this summer and made a special trip to Chartres to paint this famous black madonna. They were shocked when they saw what had been done to her. So here is my tribute to the original in all her beautiful blackness.

Just a note, being new here, some things really confuse me. Though I am a member, when I went to Jane and Clare's pages, they were on the artist website instead of the gallery page and it would not let me comment without logging in, but my login did not work. When I asked it to log me in with Facebook, it said the application developer had not been set up properly and I could not log in that way either. I wanted to post comments but could not. Do I need to create another log in, or register again?

I also notice that all the emails I receive from groups go no where, I cannot respond to them, do I need to register in some other way?

I am confused and would love some direction.

@ Michele - The reason many people include the artwork title, their name and hashtags is for the social media promotion. You can copy and paste this information into the dialog box after clicking on the SM button.
Many of us include two (2) links to the piece of art to be promoted. The SM link (the artistswebsite page) is only for promoting the work to whichever, or however many, social media platforms that you choose (google+, stumbleupon, pinterest, twitter, or facebook) with the copied and pasted artwork and artist information.
The comments link (the fineartamerica page) of the same piece of art, is to allow you to comment, like, favorite without the need to sign in every time.
I hope this makes sense and clears up any confusion you had.

Hi everyone - I didn't realize until I contacted Sabine that we were such a small group now. I will do my part to keep on keeping on and I sincerely hope we can get back to somewhat where we were a while back. I haven't been around much all summer because of a brutal work schedule and I'm sorry for that. Here is my piece for today. I taught a class at our local women's shelter last night and it was unfortunately only two hours long and quite challenging in that time frame, however, here is my demo painting and she quite shocked me as she came through. Her energy is literally palpable and she was very insistent that her name is "Naomi". An online friend of mine saw it this morning on fb and emailed me to let me know that it was going to be her talisman for the difficult divorce she is presently going through. I too have a bit of news. I was just voted onto the board of our community arts council and, if you can imagine, on the same day I was notified that a juried show that I applied to two weeks ago for the 2015 season at one of our community galleries, has accepted me for a solo show. And today, FAA sold a canvas print of one of my images. So I feel that things are finally starting to happen (AT LAST).
