Paulo Perestrelo, is a freelance photographer & author, specialized in fine art, fashion, lifestyle & photojournalism photography, since 2010. Born in Angola in 1985, I share a connection with photography since the age of 7, when during civil war in Angola, I'd collect photographs. My true love for photojournalism grew every time I'd see a portrait of my Foster Father, who was a pilot for the Angolan Air Force at that time, dressed in his uniform taken at the base. Then, in 1994, at the age of 9, while protected in an air base in Kapanda (Malange Province, Angola), I met a journalist, who inspired me even more because he was photographing a documentary in that area due to the possibility of it being attacked at any time. Always an enthusiast and eager to learn more about this adventure so called Photography, I bought myself my first camera, of many of the same despite being disposable, at the age of 12 and since then, every photograph taken has been a lesson. In 2010, I retired as a model to finally & officially pursuit my dream and become a photographer, with major influences towards fashion, lifestyle & photojournalism. In 2011 I started my first project, formerly called 'Portraits By Perestrelo', and now 'Photography by Paulo Perestrelo - Photography for a good cause', which will result in 5 limited edition photo-books where many photographic stories are shared. The project's target is to raise funds and help NPO's (Non Profit Organizations ) from both Angola (My home country) and South Africa (My host country). This also describes my idealism about photography, which is in my point of view, a vehicle that could help changing many people's lives.
