My first exposure to art was through my mother, Shirley Skloff Shapiro, a portrait painter. Those early visits to the Philadelphia Art Museum for my birthdays filled me with images of Miro, Picasso, Klee, Kandinsky, and Arp. I grew up between the art museum and the ocean. My early designs and abstract paintings were hard-edged.
