My main focus is to photograph North American mammals and birdlife in a painting like setting yet giving the viewers a detail closeup look at these great animals and birds. Absolute sharpness and clarity of each photo is a must. I am hoping to photograph the cute side, the challenging side as well as the aggressive side of the wildlife. Wildlife is about surviving as well as the happy expressions of the young before having to fend for themselves.
I travel in Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia,Yukon and Alaska as well as in the United States, south of these wonderful provinces. Eventually I plan to instruct and host photography tours with small groups to. places that have great opportunities for photographing wildlife.
Educationally, I graduated with an M.Ed degree with an emphasis on audio-visual productions. They call it multi-media nowadays. I have taught photography for 20+ years, wrote a photo book, designed darkrooms, and produced numerous documentaries for education. Recently I produced a 5-DVD (still and video) documentary of the Canadian Cowboys Association 10th Rodeo Anniversary, and currently working on a multi-DVD documentary of Jack Daines 50th Pro Rodeo Anniversary,a DVD production for the Nicola Valley Band and writing a book titled'So You want to be a Rodeo Photographer'.
In a closing note, I thnk that we are one of a handful of photographers that are shooting stills and videos simultaneously using a Nikon still and Sony video camera.
I hope you enjoy our new site. More photos will be added. If you want to check out our rodeo photos, go to www.photographybyken.ca. Enjoy ! ! !
