Historic Locations
I live in a part of the country that is full of this country's early history . . . from the very beginnings of this great land and the Civil War. One of my favorite areas is the battllefield at Antietam, the site of the single bloodiest day of the Civil War where there were 23,110 casualties. Today this battlefield is the most pristine of the historic battle sites in the country. There is a small visitor's center, a few pemanant residents and NO touristy type shops hawking cheap souvenirs. Except for the paved roads, this battlefield looks very much as it did on September 17, 1862 ... the day of the Battle at Antietam.
