Scusset State Park
These images where taken at high tide in Scusset State Park on the mainland side of Sandwich, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The purpose of them is to illustrate the problems caused by the Cape Cod Canal and the mainland side jetty that protects the canal from sand filling it in. While the jetty is effective, it has a negative side effect of preventing sand from replenishing the beaches in Sandwich on the Cape side. Sandwich beaches have been subjected to erosion over many years and because of the unintended consequences of the jetty's function, very little sand reaches the Sandwich beaches so almost no replenishment has taken place.
