About Enrique Amat
Self-taught but artist since I was born in June 1959, I have always been involved in drawing, painting, sculpturing and many others ways to express myself.
At the beginning of my working time I started drawing and designing shoes in the family business. That happened when I was 15 and ended with the age of 30. After that period, in which I not only worked on design but tried to learn techniques for oil and watercolor painting with local artists, I took the big decision of dedicate my life to art.
It was then when I started with the mosaics, to introduce them in my way of life. I begun to play with the “trencadisc”, the way that one of the greatest artists in this technical Antonio Gaudi worked. Since then I have developed the mosaics works in many ways, from vases covering to murals expressions, from sculpture to decoration. It’s been my way to survive in the never easy world of art for the last 25 years.
But I have always combined this with my other love, painting. Any technical was good to experiment; any size did feet me, from small drawings to much bigger paintings, mixing reality with imagination and even combining mosaics with painting. Experiment in art is something I have really enjoyed.
In about 20 times I have exhibited my works to general public, sometimes only paintings, others just mosaics and the rest all together, in different places, like bars, town halls or small galleries, very local to be honest but with enough success to carry on.
With time, and with my inquietude to face myself to new challenges I got myself introduced to computers like seven years ago, again had to be self-taught to something I did not study for, but the magic of it caught me. You can see here some of the experiences that results of this other way of expression for me, that at the end is just one more way to try to expulse and renew all that weight that an artist carries as part of the job.
At this point I would like to say that art is a need for me, the need of trying to offer a pleasant moment, get an smile if it is possible, or through my works ask simple questions that can be answered the same way: with honesty and a smile if it is possible.
Just to finish I would like to introduce you the last line of work I am involved with, marble murals. The intention of it is to use the design that nature provides as the base to create, the marble is really thin and so the weight is not a problem, really positive. I will put a few works on this web to show them, is something that now is a possibility and soon will be a reality. I would be very pleased to have your comments on my e-mail address.
Hope to make contacts now that I have decided to open to the vast world of art from my little country side home. Best wishes to the art people, now more than ever a need to this world.
