Hand to Mouth Farm to Table Series
Americans have become so divorced from their food sources they have almost reached to point rejecting fresh food that hasn't been wrapped in plastic. A blemished apple is passed over for the perfect fruit. A tasteless tomato that can bounce is preferred over the "ugly" heirloom. People decry hunting yet don't want to know what's in their hot dog. This series will explore the direct interaction between food producer and consumer. Farm stands, pick your own, farmers markets and backyard gardeners. I got my first taste of buying direct after moving to an island off the coast of Maine from Boston. Lobsters, shrimp, clams, mussels and crab meat could all be purchased directly from one's neighbors.
