Photographed this image at the San Diego Zoo. This was a very difficult shot to get because the mother Koala is very protective of the baby Koala and the mother Koala will not leave the baby Koala alone and therefore until the baby Koala gets older the mother Koala rarely comes out into the open to be seen by the public. I tried to keep my wildlife photos looking as natural as possible with the animals always looking like they are in their natural habitat. The koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) is an arboreal herbivorous marsupial native to Australia, and the only extant representative of the family Phascolarctidae.

The koala is found in coastal regions of eastern and southern Australia, from Adelaide to the southern part of Cape York Peninsula.
