Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….
I recently started using this scene for my computer’s desktop image. I’ve always liked the singularity of the people in it. An individual with a body reflected and a long shadow. All three elements contained in a personal space, in a big space.
I attended the University of Rhode Island where I studied photography under Bart Parker. I graduated with a BFA in fine art photography and a minor in communications. College was always b&w work, hand-processed in the dark room, using many different cameras. It was great fun. After college I worked in the photo-finishing business for many years as well as doing commercial photography. In the 80's I started to shoot only color for my artwork and never returned to the world of black & white - until 2014. I started converting my color digital images to black and white whenever I saw them as intended for bw. I believe the eye you started with does not go away. This lovely image brings to mind summer holidays spending idyllic times with family and friends, maybe that's why you have it as your background? Who doesn't love spending time at the beach. I see what you mean about the shadows and reflections, although as the people become more distant their reflections are visible but not the shadows.
Glenn DiPaola replied:
Thank you Linda. I think I had it for my background because I don't get to the beach at all to speak of. I had not been to the Pacific in decades, so a special time. Glad you see that in the people. You would not see this on the east coast. It's different light and more space than many beaches on my coast. Maybe more like the colorful little beach houses you have posted. Those are great.
