Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

In addition to painting in traditional mediums, I also practice Gyotaku. Gyotaku is an ancient artistic method that uses real fish or other sea creatures. I practice the Direct Method by painting directly on the fish, then press handmade paper over them. When the paper is lifted, the impression of the creature on the paper. At this point, final touches are added, such as the eye and traditional signature. (Traditional Gyotaku does not paint the eye to make the original impression.) My traditional signature is my name in Japanese.
Odessa Kelley is a native Floridian who travels extensively in the US in search of her artistic subjects. She is an award-winning Wildlife and Gyotaku Artist, skilled in a variety of mediums, which include acrylic and oil on canvas, soft pastels, colored pencil and graphite. She has been honing her skills as an amateur nature photographer and uses her own photographs of wildlife for reference. Odessa's method of learning through books, online tutorials, trial and error, and life experience allows her to experiment with many different mediums and techniques. This is how she learned to create Gyotaku (fish rubbings). Her Gyotaku paintings combine the elements that she holds most dear: painting, nature, and science.
