Description
This rather special and distinctive cosmos, Cosmea bipinnatus or Cosmos Sea Shells, has quilled, fluted petals, each rolled round a hollow tube like a sea shell. They splay out from a yellow button centre forming a 2 inch daisy-like bloom in pastel shades of rose, pink, carmine, crimson or white. Sometimes they have bicoloured interior and exterior tubes. It has finely cut lacy ferny foliage adding airy grace and longlasting colour to any sunny spot. It is ideal for backgrounds, borders and cutting. It's height is 36 to 60 inches.
Cosmos is one of the best nectar plants for attracting birds, bees and butterflies to the garden and the flowers are perfect for pressing.
Cosmos is also known as The Mexican Aster.
