THE RUSSELL The Sale to Benefit the CM Russell Museum

The Russell: The Sale to Benefit the C.M. Russell Museum is a fine art exhibition and three day fundraising event. Through supporting events and materials, The Russell provides an educational component for the public and allows the Russell Museum to become a more financially stable institution in order to carry out its mission. Western Art Week has been taking place in Great Falls, Montana, since 1969.

March 14-16, 2013 Events

March 14, 2013 The Russell Silent Auction and Preview at the C.M. Russell Museum
Begins: 6 p.m.

Activities commence Thursday evening with a silent auction of fine art, objects, and unique travel experiences. Art that will be sold at the Saturday live auction will also be available for viewing. Appetizers, hosted refreshments, and the opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones will all be a part of the Western hospitality people will receive while at the world-famous C.M. Russell Museum.

March 15, 2013 Art in Action® at the Meadow Lark Country Club
Begins: 10 a.m.

This venue has repeatedly been a sold out success. As an exciting variation of a traditional artist’s “quick draw,” it will feature 26 nationally known artists working in a variety of media. This quick finish event gives artists several hours to finish a piece of art while interacting with the crowd. Art in Actionâ includes brunch, hosted refreshments, entertainment, and a live auction to sell the completed works of art. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the museum by participating artists.

March 16, 2013 Educational Seminars at the C.M. Russell Museum
Begins: 9:30 a.m.

From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013, the C.M. Russell Museum will present an exciting program of talks and a demonstration about historic and contemporary art of the American West. Noted art historian Anne Morand, curator of art at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, will share her original research on the neglected artist Charles Schreyvogel (1861-1912) in her lecture \"Searching for Schreyvogel.\" Artist Howard Post, nationally known for his depictions of Arizona ranch life in a sun-drenched impressionist style, will discuss the American Western art tradition and his own place within it. His talk is aptly titled \"Western Perspectives and Post Impressionism.\" Rising Western art star Logan Maxwell Hagege, whose sophisticated paintings of Native Americans combine representation with abstraction, will demonstrate his process for creating powerful portraits of indigenous peoples.

March 16, 2013 The Russell Live Auction at the Best Western Heritage Inn
Begins: 5 p.m. social hour, 6 p.m. live auction

The highlight of the week will be a Saturday evening live auction of top quality historic and contemporary Western art.
