Street Photography - Midtown

Street photography is capturing life at 1/1000th of a second. It is, quite literally a slice of time, a snapshot of the human condition. A record of life “frozen in time.” It is as easy and as complicated as that. This class will lead you through the streets of the city, learn how to engage "the street", approaching strangers, finding order in the disorder and focus on capturing the "decisive moment", where the pieces of the puzzle that makes up the chaos that we know as the streets of NYC all come together, in just that one instant, it makes sense. Cities, any city, but especially New York City, is a living, breathing entity. Street photography is about capturing the soul of the city.

Being one the most diverse cities in the world, there is perhaps no better location to view and capture the varied people, culture and lifestyles of the world, yet this melting pot, this tapestry of culture, weaves together something uniquely New York. For this Workshop, we will check out the bustling area of Midtown.

Topics to be covered include:

• Approaching strangers: a best practices approach;
• Overview of effective camera settings and technique;
• Predicting and capturing "the decisive moment";
• Tips for capturing unique images;
• Compositional insight; and
• Lens choice and gear recommendations

Required: Bring your camera as this will be a very hands-on Workshop.
