Paint the Portrait Workshop Mumbai Three Day Workshop

When you understand how to express concepts clearly, you communicate with efficient ease. Paintings that communicate effectively have viewers returning to them in awe. What lies beneath most successful paintings is the abstract concept that establishes a continuum between all shapes, colors, values and edges. Learning to see the visually abstract concept behind a composition and interpreting it in paint in an Alla Prima way (direct method of painting wet into wet), is the focus of this workshop.

This is
a 3-day workshop with one demo day and two in-depth training days:

Day One: Suchitra will do a couple of portrait painting demonstrations from a live model. She will talk briefly about her techniques and share some of her paintings. This will be followd by an informal Q&A session and an opportunity to chat with Suchitra. You have the option of attending only the demo on day 1, or continue an in-depth workshop that includes day 2 and 3.

Day Two: Suchitra will begin the day by explaining the key principles of portrait painting such as Planes of the Head, Abstraction of Dark & Light Patterns, and Atmospheric Backgrounds. While painting from a live model, she will show you how to use the basic visual tools (Line, Shape, Value, Color and Edges) to construct a successful painterly portrait. You can paint along with Suchitra and she will provide personal guidance to help you complete your painting.

Day Three: You will practice the techniques learned on day two by painting another portrait using a different perspective and/or lighting scheme. Suchitra will provide individual attention to help you with your problem areas. This will be followed by a critique of your completed paintings.
