Littleton Colorado Pastel Plein Air Workshop

This workshop.will be held in the area of Littleton Co and the Terry Ludwig Pastels / Studios. This is a wonderful opportunity to take a workshop about pastels and be able to purchase from the "colorologist" of the pastel world ... Terry Ludwig! It is like being in a candy store. The class will be for those interested in learning how to use pastels, or for advanced pastel artists to learn how to raise their art to the next level. We will discuss value and temperature, how to design the painting, and techniques for creating the scene from a photograph as if you were outdoors from life. Contact me for registration.

Description of class:
The 8:45 am arrival time is to get your gear into the classroom (if weather is not good enough for the plein air) and set up or discuss and distribute maps for a plein air location. A supply list will be given upon registration. This workshop is appropriate for beginners through advanced. Advanced students will learn how to raise their art to the next level.

The workshop will consist of instruction on composition, thumbnail sketches, value, temperature, and color theory. We will discuss painting from photographs if this is a studio workshop, and how to make a painting look as if painted on location. Critiques will be given continually as each student is helped at their easel.

A demonstration will start the day on the first morning. We will discuss quickly creating a thumbnail sketch to work from, blocking in the darks and lights, finding the colors and developing the painting. You will not necessarily finish each painting. This class is not to paint a pretty painting from start to finish – but how to plan and start properly with less problems.
