Introduction to Hot Head Torch Fired Enameling with Terry Brake at Peninsula Art Academy

Introduction to Hot Head Torch Fired Enameling with Terry Brake. Discover a low tech, low cost method of firing enamels on metal! By using simple tools, metal and enamels, create colorful pieces to use as focal points in your jewelry. Torch firing is a great way to experience enameling. It\\\'s not a replacement to kiln fired enamels, but an extension to your tool kit of techniques. Torch fired enameling also allows you to watch the magic - the glowing of the metal and the melting of the enamel. This hands on techniques will allow you to mix and blend the colors, or add layer after layer to get thick juicy effects. Each student will complete at least one (2\\\") piece in this 2-hour workshop. Enamels, metal, basic tools (mandrels, torch, trivets) copper, and iron beads will be provided by the instructor. Some additional materials will be available for purchase. Have a small, bare copper item? Bring it along to add to your fun! Basic metals knowledge is helpful, but not required. Bring safety glasses if you have your own Rx. Do wear only natural fabrics, no loose clothing. A natural fabric apron is suggested. Wear closed-toes shoes and tie back long hair. Sunday, May 19th from 1:30pm to 3:30pm or
Thursday, May 23rd from 7pm to 9pm. Ohio JMAG members $114 Non-members $120. Terry Brake has BFA in Enameling from Kent State University.
