The Alton Mill Arts Centre is a national award-winning heritage building that now houses galleries, shops and artists studios as well as special event spaces. There are three permanent art galleries, a jewellery design gallery and a special exhibition gallery. There are also some 25 artists working in their studios, many of which are open on an ongoing basis and all of which are open on event weekends. Referred to by one critic as a "jewel in the crown of the GTA Art scene" the mill is located in the Caledon Hills, an hour from downtown Toronto, north of Brampton.
