Cousins in Clay at Bulldog Pottery

The Cousins Are Coming ….“Cousins in Clay": Saturday and Sunday – May 31-June 1, 2014….. Contemporary Ceramic Art in Seagrove, NC at Bulldog Pottery. Potters, Bruce Gholson and Samantha Henneke, will host their 6th Annual “Cousins in Clay” with special guest potters Dan Anderson, a distinguished potter from Edwardsville, Illonois and Blair Clemo, an emerging young potter from Grand Rapids,Michigan soon to be teaching at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. Dan Anderson, crafts meticulous replicas of antique metal oil cans, architectural forms aluding to the iconic water tower, and a variety of functional forms some of which have decals of famouse persona. Blair Clemo is a skilled ceramic craftsman who combines handbuilding and wheel thrown techniques to create elegant pottery that is adorned with ornamental texture. Joining them will be Michael Kline from Bakersville, NC, who is known for his lyrical floral brush imagery that gracefully wraps around his wood-fired pottery forms. Bruce and Samantha of Bulldog Pottery specialize in iridescent crystalline glazes and imagery that reflect their interests in the natural world. During the two day event meet the potters, ask questions, and add to your pottery collection or begin one.
Pottery will be for sale beginning at 10 am on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday June 1. On Saturday, May 31, Chronis Pou Vasiliou of Greensboro, will play his bouzouki music; and at 3:00 Blair Clemo will give a throwing demonstration. The annual potters’ potluck will be at noon, all are welcome to bring a dish and join in with the festivities. Beginning Sunday afternoon at 1:30pm Dan Anderson will present a demonstration.
Pick up a Seagrove Potters map while at Bulldog Pottery’s “Cousins in Clay” and make it a weekend of visiting Seagrove Potteries. Seagrove, North Carolina is synonymous with ceramics. A unique group of over 100 potters and over 65 open pottery shops are located within a short distance from the town of Seagrove, making it a destination for serious pottery shopping and a time to meet the potters, who are proud to make art you live with.
