10 Years
Sculpture, Painting, and Digital Media by Jay Knapp
Born and raised in Detroit Michigan, Jay Knapp attended Wayne State University where he received his BFA in Sculpture. Since that time, sculpture, painting, photography, and digital media have all shown up in his oeuvre. Now, for the first time, all of these mediums will be on display in his debut exhibition in Pittsburgh, "10 Years".
The center point of Knapp's exhibition, "10 Years", will be his nationally acclaimed hand turned wood sculptures which explore the perception of safety and the psychology of anxiety stemming from nuclear weapons in American culture. Alongside these intricate woodcarvings, Knapp will reveal some of his most personal and closely kept abstract paintings as well as his photography disassembled and remixed into digital paintings.
Knapp's controversial social outlook intertwined with his intensely unforgiving inward search for sensuality and beauty brings his artistic process together into full view, and invites the audience into his creative circle. "10 Years" will be on exhibit from August 5th through October 3rd.
