Photography exhibit

An exhibit of work by award-winning Hampden, MA, photographer Jim Gillen will be on display at the Storrs Library in Longmeadow, MA, March 1-28.

A reception will be held March 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The public is invited.

An amateur photographer for more than 40 years, Gillen has a passion for scenic landscapes and close-ups that he has gathered locally and in travels around the country. His work includes photos from Western Massachusetts, Cape Cod, Washington state, California, Rhode Island and Vienna, Austria. The show will include photographic prints and photos on canvas.

A native of New York City, Gillen has lived in Hampden since 1974. He is the former the city editor of The Republican in Springfield where he worked for nearly 35 years. He has a bachelorŐs degree in communication arts from Fordham University and a masterŐs degree in business from Western New England University.

GillenŐs photos have been featured in solo exhibits at the Salt Pond Visitors Center at the National Seashore on Cape Cod, the Hampden Public Library and Christ the King Lutheran Church in Wilbraham. He won a Piedmont Award at the 13th Annual Photography Show in Somers, CT, and the PeopleŐs Choice Award at the Wilbraham Art League Photography Exhibit, both in 2013. He is a member of the Wilbraham Art League and the Quaboag Hills Photography Club in Palmer.

The exhibit will be on view in the Betty Ann Low Meeting Room during library hours, except when special events are scheduled in the room.
