Trying to Reach your Goal on Luck

Over the years I've learned that to reach a goal takes more than just luck! Every destination usually has a few different ways to get there but each one is unique, some with more twists and turns and some a little more straight; however, each one gets you there! Many times we find ourselves comparing our road to the others, looking at our hardships compared to the others joys. But what we, many times, fail to realize... we ALL have those twists in the road, those bumps or detours we were not expecting.

Persistence: "the quality that allows someone to continue doing something or trying to do something even though it is difficult or opposed by other people; the state of occurring or existing beyond the usual, expected, or normal time.

Patience: "Able to remain calm and not become annoyed when waiting for a long time or when dealing with problems or difficult people."

Perseverance: "continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failures, or opposition: the action or condition or an instance of persevering: steadfastness."

If anyone has seen the movie, "The Family Stone," there is a character my sister says I identify with. At one point you see Amy coming home from "school," and is pulling her basket of clothes out of the backseat. As the basket falls into the snow, instead of picking it up... she stares at if for a moment, pulls off her bag and throws that in the snow as well!! (that's very helpful you know. haha) But THAT can be me! I can often get so frustrated with the path of little annoyances and lose my patience. Lose my vision of the goal.

Having the gifted time to allow more of it towards my art, I've noticed those "pains" begin to creep up again. Overwhelmed with all that needs to get done and all that I do NOT know, I can lose sight of the goal at the end and wish for an easier road.. or luck. But as I've found in the past and remind myself today, it is THROUGH persistence, patience, and perseverance that makes me a better person. I am more happy and satisfied when I've gone through the hard task without even entertaining the idea of throwing a tantrum and wishing for a lucky break. As I learn to "pick up the basket of clothes without throwing my bag in the snow," I learn to move forward and get one step closer to the end goal!

As you look at your goals: dreams of running a half-marathon, learning a new hobby, finishing 10 books a year, paying off all debts or saving for a much needed vacation... I hope you too realize that with all great things come much hard work!

.... but it's worth it and so are you!

have a blessed day!
