"The Prophets" artwork by Cedric Chambers

Cedric Chambers is one of the artists on Fineartamerica. His painting titled "The Prophets" has been dubbed controversial due to the subject matter; most notably the ruins of the New York Twin Trade Towers.

When I first saw this work I found no reason to assign it the title of the most offensive painting known. In fact it lead me to a quite voracious twitter rant about how it should not be counted as such.

The reason I am bringing this artist and work to attention in this article is due to the depth of the pop imagery in the image. We have two symbols of messiahs; one that embraced the evil within, and another that was killed by the evil that resided without. When asked about the significance of this piece Chambers responds that to him "this piece represents the battle between good and evil, in a way that accepts that they are the same."

His explanation gives rise to the questions that plagued me during my tour in Afghanistan. In circumstances where the lines between good and evil are greatly blurred, or where the beliefs of the populace embraces as good what you personally believe is evil, one can find themselves wondering if either really exists.

I really would like to impress upon you to check out his artwork on Fineartamerica.
