Painting Boba Fett

So I recently finished a painting of Boba Fett for my son. I was pretty apprehensive about doing this particular painting because it's pretty far outside my wheel house. But i did it because my son REALLY wanted me to paint him a picture of Boba Fett. So I found an image of Boba Fett and started to get a feel of how I would start this project. Of course it went nothing like I wanted it too! My first go around the background was all wrong and the size of Boba Fett's helmet was way too small. My son, the sweet boy he is, said he really liked how it was turning out, but I new I would have to do some big time revamping. I have always been in aw of the artists who can just quickly paint a scenery with what seems like very little effort and not make any mistakes. That is clearly not my strong suit. So here goes Round two! I bust out some molding paste and mix it with some black. I take my palette knife and start texturing the heck out of the background. This time making sure to leave a big enough area for the helmet and shoulders. Gave it a day or so to dry and felt very good about the outcome! I'm starting to really feel the painting now! Little did i know the hard part was yet to come. Once I started the helmet I quickly learned that all the straight lines I would have to do free hand was going to take a lot of patients. Luckily I am a pretty patient person :). A couple of days later I had all of the outline work done and filled in with the main colors for the helmet. Then i got to work on the "distressing" of the helmet. This is my favorite part. Its when you really get to see the life of the painting start to appear. Some scratches here, a dent there and some iridescent paint to really make it pop and I was done! I am so glad I did this for my son. He loves it and it is now hanging in his room next to all his other prized posters and figures of super heroes and villains. I attached a picture of the finished piece for you to see. I hope you like it :). Next up Cinderella for my daughter! Wish me luck!
