A few people ask if some of my paintings are photos, or they genuinely mistake them for photos. Some of my paintings are painted to a photo-realistic standard and it depends what I'm painting really; if I feel realism is better for the subject.
However, I am a painter, and for about eighteen months now I have not used any form of photo-manipulation; it's all free-hand work based around my own sketches.
So to show how I actually go about painting something realistic from scratch, without incorporating any photography, I occasionally video the process, so here's one I prepared earlier...
