Nature Lovers In The Rush Of 21st Century Life

Growing up, I was very close to nature. The front of our house was a big field, and our backyard was my mother’s nice little garden. She also had a stall in our local community garden. We often spent our summer weekends visiting that community garden stall, and playing with the butterflies. In the weekday evening we watched our mother feed the wild birds in the front yard, and nurtured some of our own little flower pots in the backyard.

Now things have changed. After changing cities a few times, my mother has not yet got a new community garden membership. Our lives have also got busier with school. Elementary was gone, junior high rushed by, and high school came along. Now studies have got harder and busier. Student life at high school also brought it’s own little “should do” rules along, like school and community involvement, career and postsecondary research and more. In the rush of life our connection with nature has come down to our times spent on the way to school and coming back home. Our evenings are spent studying, and weekends go by making up for the rest that we lacked in the meanwhile. Social life and recreation has started to get more directed to technology than ever. Living in the west, covered in snow most of the year, we try to find sources of entertainment that keep us indoors. And before we notice, they have preoccupied us so well, that we ended up spending most of our summers indoor as well.

Taking photography courses let me explore a whole new field of interest while coming back to nature once again. I spent time exploring the school courtyards, back yard and mall gardens throughout my practice and attempt to succeed. I’ve always seen photography as task of capturing boring sights that are easily visible otherwise. Once I picked up the camera and got started, it has totally changed my sight on photography. If you have never tried it, you definitely should consider it as a form of recreation. Once you have picked up a camera you will truly enjoy the nature more as you start witnessing the growth in life more closely and observing the dynamics of nature in closer details.
