Art is Prozac Not Profit

I was five years old when I knew I wanted to be an artist. When I grew up I was going to draw pictures, sell them, and live. To a child's mind everything is that simple. I am currently 36 years old and I have yet to achieve professional status. I have made money selling my art so I could be considered a professional in a way but not in the way that I've always dreamed which was to make a living exclusively from artwork sales. Some people don't ever achieve that dream and I don't consider them lesser artists than the ones who do. An artist is an artist because they make art, not because they get paid to make art.
