apparently i'm part of a clique now, so i have to do what we all seem to be doing. it's hard to do the handshake since i have no hands online. so i'll wear the hat even though i'm not of that religion or really any.

@Mike Savad - Thanks! The beauty of it all is how much I LOVE what I do. I feel that I have the absolute perfect job so, yeah, I'll keep on keeping on :)

there are really no top tips. just keep pushing work and always upload your best - whatever it is. chances are whatever you like other people like. and be sure to splash your name everywhere.

@Sheena- thanks for the info- it kelps me to keep things in perspective, I know the few hours a day I put in are not enough-and starting mid Jan- I will be able to devote more days and time to my art.
@ Mike-- darn Mike when do you sleep? eat? grocery shop, cook?
Thank you both for the imput- I now know what is expected if I am to be a sucessful business owner.
I should have known this by watching my neighbors.
They owned a business and would work 10 to 12 hours M- F and they would both work 6 hours on Sat and Sun, one would work the mornings and the other the afternoon shift.
They would take seperate vacations - which consisted of maybe 3 or 4 days off, and never far from home, maybe 3 hour drive-so they could make it home in a hurry if they needed to. In 8 years, I only know of one time they took a 2 week vacation and went together. They had 4 locations and maybe 5 employees.
Many of us artists run a solo shop. When you love what you do, the day flies by so quickly.
I sometimes tend to let the household chores pile up a tad bit too much.
Time to read up on family life and maintaining a balance.
I think structure and set work hours at the studio may be necessary, coupled with a heap of flexibilty !

This is just from FAA since 15 Nov

posters - prints, i lump them together to mean the same thing. zazzle is a separate thing, and considering how cheap the posters are there and how little i get, mentioning how many i sell there is almost moot. the cheapest print i sell here is like the most i may ever get at zazzle and that's like a miracle sale because it wasn't on sale or anything.

I didn't count z in my initial post and wasn't intending to count z at all, but thought Mike's reference to "posters" meant z, and I coincidentally had a few sale at z that same day so thought I'd share too.

it's harder to count zazzle since partly the sales vary so much there, and many cancel out as well. i only included here, so the current total for me is:
53 prints
6 cards
as of right now.
edit: and one pack of 10 cards

Four more prints and a card for me yesterday. That was the ground shipping deadline BTW so it may slow a touch now.

Oh, you're counting all sales of all the sites you're participating in and not just FAA alone ??? !!!
Good to know. That changes the overall picture a lot.

I'm assuming when you say "posters" you mean that z site. I just sold 4 "posters" there too. I don't usally see much action there, but I guess 'tis the season!

As of yesterday 13th sale since November 15th. One pack of 25 cards, the others just prints and some framed and matted none on canvas. Best month I've had on FAA and very happy. I think I only missed one month this year without a sale. Looking forward to 2013.
Way to go Sheena for only being here a month and 12 days, some are lucky to get 9 in a year.

Awesome, everyone! Those large size sales are surreal, I sold a couple of 60"ers recently and 2 thoughts went through my mind, first, that's a damn big cha-ching! lol. Second, that's going to be a damn large canvas on someone's wall! And I visualize what that large size must look like relative to the space in my own living room, and I think again, damn, that's a large canvas! lol.

time spent varies - actual work time verses simply being distracted with everything here and so forth. i'm on the computer for like 12-15 hours, but i might be working on promoting or making new stuff for maybe 5-8 of those hours. it really depends on the subject and if i have to research anything.

@DM Werner.......I am new to the site been here since Oct 30 2012....so far I have A LOT of work to do myself to get a better variety added to my galleries....I have been trying to add new artwork every 3 days or so and also just bought myself a new and better camera to do some photography as well. The number of hours I would have to say it depends on the piece I am working on but on average 2 hours a day drawing....I am new and in no position to give you advice but wanted to answer your question I am still figuring everything out right now ....good luck with future sales.

I have not had the time to devote to my art the way I should , so I cannot complain about zero sales since i joined F.A.A.
I made some major life changes back at the end of Aug, that will allow me to go back into the artworld.
Just wanted to say thanks to those of you who share your sales information as it is an inspiration to many of us!
Starting mid Jan, I will have 3 to 5 hours per day to work on my art.
That includes both the field work and the post production and wet lab darkroom work.
Just wondering about averages on time spent on artwork and posting images to your site.
per day? per week?
Thanks again for sharing your ideas and information !
I hope to be able to post sales figures next time this post goes around!

It is worth noting that this is my third holiday season as a "professional" photographer.
The first one I was only on Etsy. I sold three prints (same image and one sale was two prints) Last Christmas I sold a lot more images than this year BUT most were small (including a lot of cards in a single sale.) This year every month has been better than the prior year and usually by a between x2 and x10. Income for the year is up 300% so far.
Two boxes of 10 cards, 15 boxes of five cards sold this month. Another order for four or five boxes of ten coming in tonight.
Not from here though.
12 prints, so far(wishful thinking). My personal BME(best month ever) so I am happy. =)
Naw, can't touch Mike....
Since size does actually matter in art, here is my break down.
1 – 48 inch (If you include the 14th)
6 - 36 inch
2 - 30 inch
2 - 24 inch
3 – 20 inch
1 – 16 inch
1 – 14 inch (son’s image actually and his first sale)
7 – 8/10/12 inch prints
1-card 25 pack
8 - Single cards
So, 23 prints since the 14th. (One was my son's)
I have found people are buying larger sizes from me this year.

That's the way I look at card sales, it helps your ranking, I think it carries equal weight as selling a print. -W

sold another card if that means anything. though it was an abstract, so i'm getting up there with that word.

Ah, Mike, now those are numbers to shoot for!
JC, we will be waiting anxiously for your numbers and see if you or anyone else can unseat Mike!
But regardless of how many you'all sold, please share them, it's good to get a gauge and understand how productive FAA can be.

That's awesome Wings! Since Nov.15 it's 4 prints and 2 boxes and that's much better than last year at this time which was 0.
7 prints/canvases
1 pack of 10 cards
All since Thanksgiving. Considering that works out money wise to be more than I've sold since I joined a year ago, I'm pretty darn happy.
Hoping to sneak one or two more in before the 15th!
i was waiting for other answers....
48 prints
6 cards.
up to today at this moment, maybe i'll get something else later i hope.
i might have missed counted because i removed the cards after i added it up, so the prints might be a little higher.

Thanks Diane, yes the paycheck will be very welcome.
RJ, the secrets which are really no secret, have been discussed before. Basically, good tags, marketing outside of FAA, and probably one you won't like, quality in quantaties. Most prints I sell are in the areas of cityscapes, transportation, and pop/kitsch. Usually subjects that have a mass appeal. My slogan, "For $4.3 million you can get a Gursky. For $43 million you can get a Lichtenstein. And for just a tad under $120 million, you can get a Munch. Luckily for everyone else, there is Wingsdomain Art and Photography! "
Beth, one is better than none, and again, there is alot of Holidays left in the Season. Best of luck!
