Dale, I will take a better picture of it over the weekend and would be pleased to email it to you. It may look better in monochrome like your avatar.

Barbara your take on my avatar is nothing short of genius! You must be familiar with my passion for cats as expressed in one of my galleries. In fact, my email is "Catdale", which would make a great title for this masterpiece. I truly, honestly love this image and would be delighted if I could somehow obtain a copy. Thank you for selecting my avatar and for doing such creative, inspired work with it.

I am not sure where the avatars are in my top post :|
However, I am off for an hour or two now and am going to try Jean again
10 Years Ago
Well, I am having a go - I've started one of Dale - she may not recognise herself though! I'll continue with it and post what I've done tomorrow.

A fun challenge and good work by all! I hope that more folks give it a go.
And kudos to those who had the decency (and basic manners) to give acknowledgement of the effort of the sketcher to attempt this challenge. (Thanks, Abbie.)

Roger, I think that is fantastic. You really caught the essence of the image with a few simple lines... or are those jelly beans?
Very cool Roger and just in the rules of the game :D
Looking forward to it Sheena!! I am back on Jean's. For a little lady (in the image) she sure is hard LOL

Abbie it's a rainy day today...my daughter and I are just lounging around....so I might tackle yours today.....we will see

Lovely conversation but, may we get back to sketching those 2d images now?
I do not want the momentum lost

Roy,
If one is only using only one photograph to make a drawing with... all that will result is transference of the image from one 2 dimensional surface to another,,,,,In fact, the best way to copy that image is to turn the original upside down.....Since all one is doing is making a drawing of a photograph..and not a drawing of the person photographed.
All we can work from is the photos given...If someone is squinting from the sun.or has a perpetual squint (Clint Eastwood) how are we to know?
As to knowledge of bone structure...Again I insist that one has to encounter that structure in it's alive, 3 dimensional form to have any semblance of understanding the reality of the subject portrayed.

A note about these works for a couple of people who have asked why we cant have larger images to draw from
They are MEANT to be hard. That is the point of them. What can we as drawing people see, without having it thrust in our faces in a large sketch?.
They may not be perfect copies of a person but they are what we, the artist, makes of a small image. However you are allowed to stretch them to make a print out.

Greg, here is yours :)

I can only draw the people who have pasted what I asked them to paste. It gives us the right to show your work both here and on the magazine. Otherwise we cannot do it really.
Gregory and Natalie are the only people to have done it properly :(

Anyone else can take yours too.

I would love it if someone creative could sketch my avatar, I can't draw to save my life Lol! That's why I take pictures I guess ;-)
Firstly Gregory I can only see a paint brush as your avatar as I don't think you are actually logged into your artist account properly
Secondly I said NO LARGER IMAGES are allowed. Only the avatar size here or on the profile page

If it helps, you can see a larger version of my avatar at:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/49073236@N00/6156771195/sizes/o/in/set-72157624914566390/
(Posting flickr links won't get me booted, will it?)
If I edit avitar sized images, my results are always crappy. But I'm a photographer, using photographic editing techniques.
If I were to attempt this, I would work on a large image, and resize it to an avatar as my final step.
If you can make something out of this at avatar resolution, I am very impressed!
I think it's a great idea. =) LOL...I doubt what I would do would be recognizable though.
If you do something in PS then you can just take the avatar and change it. Not really the point of the exercise.
Even if you cannot draw you can have a go at this. It doesn't have to be perfect, just have a look of the avatar you are copying
12 Years Ago
LOL "The image you sketch must look like the avatar" and if you can't draw?(JOKE)
My camera is traveling until Wednesday or Thursday,so I can't.
Can I do something on PS?
Does it have to look like a sketch?
